November End A Romantic Fairy Tale edition by Heather McVea Romance eBooks

I really enjoy Heather McVea's books and her new read November's End was no exception! This book is slightly different than her others, because it's set in historical Baltimore around the early 1900s. I really felt for Calina's struggle trying to support her family and come to terms with who she is and who she loves in that particular time period. And her love interest Nessa is probably one of the most intriguing female characters I've come across in quite awhile!

There is a big twist in this book about halfway through that sends the plot spinning in a completely different direction that I had anticipated. I won't spoil it for other readers, but the Amazon synopsis talks about how both Calina and Nessa are keeping big secrets...and they really really are! I was fascinated by how the story unfolded.

Five stars for this one, and crossing my fingers there will be a sequel!

November End A Romantic Fairy Tale edition by Heather McVea Romance eBooks Reviews

I never know what to expect from Heather McVea. She writes about science as much as fantasy, and I didn't expect this one to go from early 19th century Baltimore into another world. I was pleasantly surprised.
It could easily have been a 5. I just loved the first half of this book. 19th century, early at that. Two women so in love, both defying society. It was fantastic and romantic. And after that, while still very good, disappointed me a bit but not much. Maybe I should have gone with a 5. Will read this author again and again. Ok it is a 5.
This is the first book I have read by this author, and honestly I cound not put it down. i am a serious fan of lesbian fiction, and it is sometimes difficult to find authors who can really truly write stories that pull you in and make you part of the story. Heather McVea is one of those authors - her writings bring to mind Sarah Waters - creating a story that is vivid and complete. I loved this novel and my goal is to read more of her work. Cheers Heather Mcvea - I am a Fan!
This was a good book, I can't say great but it was good. I enjoyed reading it and liked the authors way of building the relationship between the main characters. She built it up and made it about love rather than sex like most lgbt books seem to do. Please don't take my saying the book is "good" as negative, I was just a little thrown with the fairy part. Honestly, I was expecting it to be witch craft. I did like the idea of a world where people didn't get hung up on who loved who and just lived their lives.
I've yet to read a bad book by this author. This one didn't disappoint either.

I wasn't surprised by the seamless manner with which she incorporated a Fae story line in a historical setting (refer to her vampire series). It was unsettling to be reminded what women endured at one time.

Storyline was great, the budding and development of the romance was well-paced. I realized the areas I thought to be "slow" was due to my reluctance in reading about the conditions our ancestors lived in (women, minorities alike).
Amazing read! always good seeing something new from H.McVea because many readers know that whatever book is release will surely not disappoint. And this book lived up to everything from love, family drama that showed in combining of two worlds- one in the future and the other in the past. I do not know how she(author) does it but this was really good penmanship on paper without a doubt and was even enjoyable, entertaining from the first page to its ending..recommend to everyone
So I read the description and this book sounded appealing and I read the story with pleasure, let's just get that out of the way. This is one part historical novel and one part fantasy. I read the prologue, which implies the fantasy to come, and then must have fallen asleep at some point because I quite forgot about it.

I read this thinking only about the historicity of the time period and the logistics of the schedule of Calina, our heroine who must alter her appearance each day in the bathroom of a nearby coffee shop to look like a man so that she can work in some garment factory as a man and earn more money.

In this factory she meets Dessa, the other heroine, who draws the attention of every man around her but finds the new boy interesting because the new boy does not have the same jaw dropping, eye popping reaction to her presence and then conveniently, accidentally, discovers Calina's secret.

OK. So I already said I enjoyed this and will probably give it four stars because the story moved, was interesting and typos were uncommon. I think each and every character could have been fleshed out better from Calina's parents to the main characters themselves. The author uses one of two favorite tropes in f/f - "just get them to share a bed together!" as opposed to playing 'truth or dare' or some other nonsense.

Just as everything seems cool, Dessa's.....

The two leads do NOT have a spell of miscommunication and split up because of it and I am eternally grateful to the author for not injecting that into it.

***************spoiler ***************

The very ending of the story has a twist to it that I found both irritating and interesting. If world hopping is so easy to do, and the characters talk about "visiting" the other world so frequently, why on earth would Dessa wait six months without letting Calina know anything?!
