Since her divorce two years before, Kelsie Collins has been determined to guard her heart and steer clear of seemingly ‘perfect’ men. An easy task considering the kind of men her matchmaking mother and her best friend, Nanci, keeps setting her up with. She allows them to set her up, knowing their hearts are in the right place and that there is no risk of her letting any man close enough to hurt her again. Her growing experience in ways to slip out of those ‘dates from hell’ prompts her to start writing a bad date survival guide. One aptly titled - OPERATION DATE ESCAPE. And it’s during one of those escapes that sexier than sin firefighter Cole Maxwell comes to her rescue.

Cole isn’t sure what to think when the sexy redhead he’s just ‘rescued’ from a bad date informs him that he’s too ‘perfect’ to date. That’s a first. He’s had relationships end because the women couldn’t handle the risks that go along with his chosen profession, but never because he’s too perfect.

When his crew gets called out to rescue someone who is stuck in a tree, Cole finds himself once again coming to Kelsie’s rescue. This time he’s not about to let her get away without agreeing to give him a chance, even holding her high heels hostage to make it happen. She finally gives in and things heat up between them like a 3-alarm fire. But there’s more than passion between them and Cole sets out to prove to Kelsie that he’s nowhere near ‘perfect’, but he is the ‘perfect’ man for her. Can he get past the wall she’s built up around her heart? Or will he end up being just another chapter in her book of men she ran from?

SPOILERS INCLUDED

So, let's recap...All the times our protagonists interact:

1 In a bar, briefly.
2. In a hospital ER, where she uses him to escape a bad date, and he drives her home.
3. In a tree, where he rescues her from yet another bad date.
4. On a date, where they don't even make it to dinner. Have sex instead.
5. A drunken phone call.
6. A picnic, which they leave early to - you guessed it - have sex.

He knows she has been burned, that she is afraid of trusting, that she doesn't want to fall in love. And yet, after these few encounters, when she runs away because she is spooked by her strong feelings for him (eye roll), he is furious with her for not trusting him. "Haven't I earned your trust by now?"

This may be dramatic, heart-wrenching, emotional - but it's also ridiculous! Of course she doesn't trust him! Trust takes time. It takes time together. It takes seeing each other through the exciting times and the dull. Sure, don't write him off, but don't go all in, either. Of course, I also don't think they should be sleeping together just for the fun of it.

And of course, the next time they meet:

7. He hates her, she cries, he doesn't hate her, they're engaged.

Was the book fairly free of grammatical errors, etc.? Sure. Were there humorous parts? I suppose. I found the repetitively dreary scenes of mother and best friend trying to convince the heroine to try again, well, repetitive and dreary.

I just did not like these characters and I found their relationships and problems very silly. I would have enjoyed this more if we actually had seen a relationship between the couple grow. I don't understand what they saw in each other. Except sex, of course.

OPERATION DATE ESCAPE edition by Lindsey Brookes Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews

Kelsie is the mastermind of date escapes, thanks to her overbearing mother and nagging best friend that keep setting her on bad blind dates. That’s what gave her the idea to write her book, Operation Date Escape. My favorite was breaking a leg.

After being burned by a relationship, she avoids men, especially those “too perfect” men. Then she meets hunky firefighter Cole. It’s bad enough that she can’t help wanting this hottie, but does her mother have to keep insisting she get a boob job to nab a guy?

Cole is Mr. Perfect and he makes Kelsie drool, which is exactly why she can’t date him. She only dates guys with flaws because she knows that there will never be a future, which has kept her heart safe from pain.

Hilarious romantic comedy! I loved her date escapes from these douche bags, with the best one being her getting stuck in a tree, trying to escape out of a window of a strip club. I only wished we could’ve had more of these date escapes rather than immediately dive into this infatuation with Cole. And did we really need to hear about the hook-up between Nanci and Joe? I mean, this story was about Kelsie and Cole.

Nonetheless, this is still an enjoyable story!
It has been awhile since I've read a book that was truly a romantic comedy and Operation Date Escape fits the bill to a T! Kelsie is a little nuts, as is her BFF Nanci (with an 'i') and her mom Melinda. The banter between Kelsie and the uber delicious Cole is just hilarious and her conversations with Nanci are equally hilarious. Several times I laughed out loud but my favorite was Nanci's story about wresting a kid for a peanut butter cup!

At times I seriously wanted to choke Kelsie b/c at some point the fear is just...annoying. But despite that I would take this journey again and again, especially to get a glimpse of Cole's lone dimple!
I hosted this book for a promo tour on my blog a few months ago. I kept reading the blurb, and excerpt, and decided to give it a try. I was obsessing over it, and needed to read it to put the obsession to rest. I'm glad I did. This was a such a cute read, and a sweet romance. I couldn't stop chuckling through this book, and laughed out loud a few times. Kelsie was a fun heroine to read, she ended up in the craziest circumstances, and she was serious about not falling for Cole. And speaking of Cole, he was so patient, and loving. I was rooting for him through the entire book. Nanci with a (I), Kelsies best friend. She was definitely a great friend, and supporting character. She was a lot of fun to read too, she was a perfect secondary character. A good friend, indeed. As was Joe, Cole's best friend, and fellow fire fighter. He was Nanci's love interest, and essential to the story as well. I was smiling at the end, the scene outside of the Firehouse was priceless. A perfect ending to a book that was such a good read.
